About this event

A love of materiality and the varied processes of painting sits at the centre of Tanya Linney’s latest body of work Reset. The artist investigates methods of chance, gesture and accident to embrace a tactile and visceral presentation in celebration of the medium.

At its core, Reset champions the presence of the hand in creation, a hand that attempts to capture feeling and humanity in an increasingly digitally, sanitised world. Works show their scars and imperfections readily and celebrate their creases and folds. These forms become sculptural and topographical as they traverse emotional landscapes and reach out to viewers.

The works take a circular view of creation and embrace inception as closely as destruction – cognisant that tools and techniques that reduce, contribute ultimately as much as those that add.

Vulnerability frames these works, a strength in revealing the seemingly unresolved. The underlying understanding that imperfection is the truest representation of beauty.
